Here is the article .Too many people become managers without fully choosing this new career path and too many companies use this promotion tool as the only reward mechanism for gifted and high performing individual contributors. These 2 unfortunate realities result too often in unnecessary stress, loss of performance and sometimes permanent demotivation for both managers and their employees. It would be much more effective and actually not too difficult to help managers realize what they are about to step into and that becoming a manager comes with a long list of important duties. Doing so, would help potential managers make the leap consciously instead of almost by accident. Vince Molinaro’s book “The Leadership Contract” is a good resource in that regard.
